The number of surgical procedures
performed at the Department of Surgery
at LWRMC has topped 10,000 -- a
remarkable accomplishment for a hospital
that opened its doors just five years ago.
"While many hospitals across the country are closing, local residents are finding a hidden gem right in their backyards," says David Napoliello, MD, FACS, Chief of Surgery at LWRMC. Sarasota Magazine recently named Dr. Napoliello one of the top surgeons in the region.
"The fact that the number of surgical procedures continues to rise significantly each year is a testament to the quality of care we provide, the array of procedures we offer, our excellent surgical results and very high patient satisfaction," Dr. Napoliello says.
Surgeons representing multiple specialties use recently developed technologies and techniques. They offer comprehensive surgical management services, including traditional open surgeries and advanced minimally invasive procedures. The hospital also is developing new programs based on special areas of expertise, including an orthopaedic unit and a multidisciplinary cancer care management program.
The center also offers a variety of women's surgical services. For women needing a cesarean section, Jennifer McCullen, MD, factors it into a typical day of delivering babies.
"The nursing staff at Lakewood Ranch is phenomenal, the operating rooms are very well equipped and accommodating and I know my patients are getting excellent care while in this facility," Dr. McCullen says.
Dr. Napoliello agrees. "Many patients find that their surgeons have privileges at Lakewood Ranch, so there's no reason for them to travel out of the community for surgical services.
