On the Move in an Emergency
Shelly Gruesen, Emergency Center RN, is pushing one of the
rolling carts that enable hospital employees to set up a
makeshift triage throughout the hospital campus. If a mass
tragedy occurred in the Manatee/Sarasota area, the carts
would enable Lakewood Ranch Medical Center personnel to
set up additional triage space -- from the cafeteria to the
parking lot -- to assess multiple patients for necessary care.
LWRMC purchased two carts, which were funded through the Health Resources and Services Administration as part of homeland security.
Additional new technology includes carbon monoxide monitors that clip onto patients' fingers. This helps determine if an illness is due to carbon monoxide poisoning, and provides faster responses than waiting for blood testing results.
